If you’ve been trying to figure out how to transform from employee to boss, solo-preneur to business owner or small business to empire, then you’ve probably been asking yourself one question:
You’re probably sitting there right now, saying okay Toni, let’s skip to the part where you just tell me what to do and how to do it. And you wouldn’t be wrong. You’re asking great questions.
But your totes obsessed with “how”
You’ve been asking how instead of who. And when instead of why?
So instead of asking how do I become a millionaire? And then asking when can I quit my job? Your true focus should be on who can I serve? And why do I want this?
When you’re clear on why and who, everything else becomes soooo much easier.
Think about it like this:
I have a recipe for the most amazing chocolate cake ever made. It’s been passed down through my family for generations and it never fails the taste test.
Beyoncé says it’s orgasmic.
Or I’m pretty sure she would say that if she ever tasted it.
The point is I can give you the step-by-step instructions on how to make this incredible indulgent cake...
But if you don’t know why you wanna make the cake (is it your birthday, Christmas or a wedding?)
Whose going to be eating it (Erica hates chocolate cake - she’s allergic to cocoa - OMG, I know, can you believe?!)
Then the recipe may as well collect dust in grandmas stack of favs.
So starting with ‘omg! how do I make that cake?’ is really the wrong question.
First figure out what you want:
A successful business? That’s too vague! What does that look like, feel like, what does it give you?
Then ask yourself why you want it. (That ones easy right.. see opening paragraph if you’ve forgotten or check out the 7 entrepreneurial freedoms here)
Then figure out who you can serve, what’s your thing - the thing everyone says your amazing at...
Then and only then can you look at the HOW!!!
Because there are sooooo many ways to build a successful business. But you want to make sure that the business you’re building is the one that is right for you and your clients.
One that you’ll still love, 2 years, 5 years, 10 years down the line.
